For eons everything on our planet fed back into a cycle – nourishing and sustaining new life. Then came plastic, a new material that now pollutes every part of our planet’s vast biosphere. Today, over 10 million metric tons of plastic enters the oceans every year. From large pieces to tiny particles, plastic finds its way to remote islands, deep ocean trenches, seafloor sediments and even into the air we breathe and the water we drink.
ISLAND BY ISLAND. BEACH BY BEACH.
Island nations are often not equipped to defend themselves against the plastic flood washing up on shore and dragging through coral reefs, destroying sensitive ecosystems. To combat the threat, Parley forms collaborations with local communities and performs cleanups, provides education and develops solutions to stop this toxic threat at the source.
FUSING MATERIAL SCIENCE AND DESIGN
To create premium eyewear from plastic trash, our eco-innovation team collaborates with leading scientists in green chemistry and specialized laboratories. We even built our own testing environment. Turned into design objects, harmful waste, fishing nets and lines made from polyamide, HDPE and PP are finding a new purpose – instead of drifting in the oceans and on the seafloor, trapping and killing millions of marine animals every year.
TRANSFORMING THREATS INTO SYMBOLS OF CHANGE
Once the plastic waste is collected by the Parley Global Cleanup Network, our certified manufacturing partners sort it by type and color, wash, flake and compound it into Parley Ocean Plastic®. This premium material is then used for the frames, pouches and even the cleaning cloth.
By controlling the process from collection to final product, we not only have full transparency and control over our supply chain but can start the design process on material level. This allows us to create unique looks, design attributes and product performance.
